Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I do this work ?
I do this because I was "taken" when I had my first "virus" and machine crashed. A reputable tech worked on it, basically wiped and reinstalled Windows & my machine came back ‘nekked’ of all my data, personal and photos ! And cost me $190 in 2001. I don't think others need to be charged more than is fair. I charge a fair price and do a job I would want done for my own equipment and personal stuff !!
I like to think I have become quite adept at keeping your data intact, and still perform the necessary repair - thereby preserving your data. Should data loss be a possibility, I try to inform my customers before taking any actions that will do so, without their approval and knowledge.
Qualifications :
Microsoft Certified Desktop Technician training, and virtually hundreds of hours of technical research, hands-on work and lots of family and friends who willingly allowed me to use their computer issues as learning experience before I tested for my license in 2004.
How much will this cost ?
I ask that you drop off $30.00 when you leave your machine. After that, it's cost relevant to the repair. Under 2 hrs.of legitimate hands-on work =$30. Over 2 hrs. intense, working = $40 to $70. Your first $30 is already paid (above) so, when I call with an estimate - you tell me whether to go on and if you accept the solution.
Parts and hardware/software are to be paid by the customer including shipping of same, and are also pre-approved by you within the estimate. I expect 50% of cost of parts to be paid before order is placed, and remainder upon completion of your machine’s repair/pick up.
How long does it take ?
Again, relevant to the problem. Most virus clean-ups and machine tune-ups take less than 24 hours. More complex situations depend on parts needed, and hands-on time required, commonly about a week or less.
How is payment made ?
Generally, since I work out of the home - customers can pay by check or cash. If assistance is needed online via email or file transfer, etc. I accept payment thru Paypal and a link will be provided. Please feel free to discuss payment arrangements at any time with me, we all live on budgets and usually things can be arranged so all parties feel treated fairly.
Is there support, warranty or service to fall back on ?
Once I've worked on your machine, I'll be happy to provide up to 90 days of thorough email, telephone or hands-on tweeking until you are satisfied it is working the way you need. Any additional work or parts will be billed as if a ‘new’ job ticket. If a part is deficient by manufacture, I will assist you getting a replacement part or service from manufacturer.
